Little design nods aside, it really is apples and oranges. One option is a vintage watch that you can't guarantee to its original 60-meter water resistance, has a manual-wind movement, and a lot of charm, but doesn't come close to the modern level of finishing you get on the new Speedmaster Pilot. It has its own take on a travelers' watch movement, automatic winding, and its own cool story.

Schwartz's collection really represents the full spectrum of price points and styles. And hey, he's an athlete, so it only makes sense he'd have a G-Shock or two. Although they are very different watches in terms of horological sophistication, what they do have in common is the frying-pan vibe. For Vacheron Constantin, however, doing great open-dialed and open-worked movements just seems to be the status quo. Amidst all the craziness of Watches & Wonders, the release of their new Traditionnelle Tourbillon Retrograde Date Openface (what a mouthful) didn't get the attention it deserved. It's time to fix that.

By downsizing the Overseas to 34.5mm but otherwise keeping it pretty much the same as the 41mm, Vacheron is updating how it thinks about the Overseas collection. That is to say: more options for more wrist sizes, whether you're a guy or gal, and whether your wrist is bigger or smaller. If you want a smaller Overseas with diamonds there are still plenty of those – Vacheron also introduced a diamond set 35mm Overseas in 2023.

Of all the attempts to create a Smartwatch infused with details to appeal to the staunch mechanical watch enthusiast, I believe that TAG Heuer is the closest one on the money to achieve that goal. Also a quick note - yes, I am aware that the brand just launched a new model in the series today. Yes, I will give a more in-depth look at it next week.

I've learned to appreciate (and occasionally love) the artistry involved in making a gem-set watch, but for me, it can't compare to the talent required to accomplish this dial. This is the first time Vacheron has combined gem-setting and grisaille enamel, and while in Vacheron's pictures, the dial trended more green, here it seemed more blue to me. Regardless, the depth and contrast of the enamel work was outstanding and offered more color than traditional grisaille enamel work.

I think it would be my transition from HR to auctions. My degree was in human resources, and I had a good reputation. I had a really good position where I was recognized. I was almost 40, and I decided to let go of all of that and start something where I had absolutely no proof of knowledge whatsoever. It's very tough to start a new career.
